What sheet vinyl flooring is
Sheet vinyl is a flexible vinyl flooring that comes in wide rolls - typically 6 or 12 feet across - and is bonded directly to the subfloor. Instead of individual planks or tiles, a room is covered with one large piece, or with as few pieces as the layout allows.
The surface is a printed design layer protected by a clear wear layer, so patterns range from simple solids and speckles to wood- and stone-look prints. It sits alongside luxury vinyl plank and vinyl tile in the broader vinyl flooring family, and differs mainly in format rather than material.

The subfloor is cleaned and, where needed, leveled, since sheet vinyl is thin enough to telegraph bumps and dips underneath. The sheet is then cut to the room's shape, fitted around walls, cabinets, and fixtures, and bonded down with adhesive so no air is trapped beneath it.
Most single rooms are completed in a day. Existing flooring may be removed first, or in some cases the new sheet can go over a flat, well-bonded floor - that call depends on what is already there.
